Therefore, just search asus.com or the hp.com for the latest audio driver, delete the old audio driver and install the newly downloaded one. The sound could be back again after reinstalling.

If we have installed a Multimedia audio controller driver that is not compatible with the audio card on the computer, the computer will not recognize the sound. This is especially true with Windows XP since on other windows, the sound can be recognized except that there may be compatibility issue with the TV card or things like that. This problem are normally caused by the fact that the dell monitor or ATI graphics card doesn’t support high resolution. When the monitor displays terribly, change the startup mode to safe mode, enter the displaying settings and choose “Apply” “ok” when it’s in 16 color status. After restarting the computer, delete the Dell drivers for monitor or ATI drivers for graphics under Windows normal mode and restart again.
Also, you can edit SYSTEM.INI file in complete DOS environment instead of entering safe mode, change display.drv=pnpdrver to display.drv=vga.drv, save and exit.

1.Motherboard driver issue
The lost, damage or repeat installation of motherboard driver can cause operating system boot failure or instability issue, we can fix the issue by opening Control Panel – System – Device Manager to check whether there is yellow exclamation mark or question mark in System devices. If there are, delete the marked items (operate in safe mode), reinstall the attached motherboard driver and restart the computer. For example, motherboard with Intel chipset should install Intel drivers for motherboard (Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility) and that with VIA chipset should install 4 In 1 driver for better stability and compatibility.

2.Sound card driver issue
Windows prompts that the hardware drivers are not found and this is probably due to unsuccessful driver installation or some sound driver is running in CONFIG.SYS, automatic batch, AUTOEXEC.BAT or DOSSTART.BAT files. In this cases, delete the driver program file. Of course you can also delete the above mentioned three documents. If nothing on these files but driver program still can not be installed properly, edit the registration form. Click “begin” menu and “run”, type ”regedit” in the dialog box and enter, find and delete the registration form related to sound card.
3.Graphics driver issue
Sometimes, we couldn’t get the graphics driver properly installed. When we reinstall the operating system, we may find that there is a yellow question mark before VGA (video controller) in other devices in device manager and this is due to the miss of VGA driver installation. Therefore, find the card model, download and install the correct driver.
